本论文提要庞培是古代罗马史上的伟人,人称“伟大的庞培”。但千百年来,人们对他毁誉不一。本文第一部分就是概述西方古今史学对庞培的评价在西塞罗、音售塔克和阿庇安等古典作家笔下,庞培是个出色的军事家、政治家,于罗马共和国贡献甚多。同时,他们都曾指出庞培有贪图虚荣和处事不果所的弱点,其评价基本上是易于接受的近代西方,由于家森杨恺抑庞学术现点的影响,庞培在罗马书中的地位明显地下降了。只是到了本世纪四十年代之后,西方史家才开始对庞培重新作出公正的评价但是,贬抑庞培的学术观点至今还影响着苏联和我国史学界.第二部分,首允简述了庞培的生平,从中可见庞培的一生是轰轰烈烈的一生。
